In a plate heat exchanger, gaskets seal and guide the flow between the plates. Two separate fluid channels, one for cold fluid and one for hot fluid, are created, with the cold and hot heat exchange media flowing through their respective channels. It exchanges heat with the spaced-apart plates to achieve the user's required temperature. Each plate has openings at its four corners, and when assembled into a plate bundle, it forms the fluid distribution and collection pipes. After the cold/hot media exchange heat, they flow back from their respective manifolds for recycling.Let's talk about the structural differences between plate heat exchangers and shell-and-tube heat exchangers.

Shell-and-tube heat exchanger structure:Shell-and-tube heat exchangers consist of components such as shell, heat transfer tube bundle, tube sheet, baffles, and tube box.The shell is mostly cylindrical, containing tube bundles, with both ends of the tube bundles fixed to the tube sheet. There are two types of heat transfer fluids: hot fluid and cold fluid. One type is the fluid inside the pipe, also known as the pipe-side fluid.Another type is the fluid outside the tube, called the shell-side fluid.

In order to improve the heat transfer coefficient of the fluid outside the pipe,Several baffles are usually installed inside the tube shell.Baffles can increase the velocity of the fluid inside the shell side. This increases the turbulence of the fluid by having it pass through the tube bundle multiple times at a specified distance.

The heat exchange tubes can be arranged in an equilateral triangle or square on the tube sheet. An equilateral triangular arrangement is compact, resulting in high turbulence of the fluid outside the pipe and a large heat transfer coefficient. A square arrangement facilitates cleaning of the outside of the pipe and is suitable for fluids prone to scaling.

Plate heat exchanger structure:A detachable plate heat exchanger consists of many stamped corrugated thin plates spaced at certain intervals. It is sealed around the edges with gaskets and is constructed by overlapping a frame and compression screws. The four corner holes of the plate and gasket constitute the fluid distributor and the liquid collection tube.At the same time, the cold fluid and the hot fluid are properly separated so that they are separated on both sides of each plate. It flows in the channel and exchanges heat through the plate.

The above is a brief introduction from the heat exchange station equipment manufacturer regarding the structural differences between plate heat exchangers and shell-and-tube heat exchangers.Hope this is helpful to everyone.
